What's on your table? General Tabletop Game Discussion

Played our first game of Fate of the Fellowship. Got a couple rules wrong, but managed to complete 3 objectives before we lost. Gandalf faced the Balrog and came back as “The White”. We brought light to the Mirkwood by ridding it of shadow troops and filling it with elvish ones. And Frodo, Sam, and Gollum did their thing in Shelob’s Lair successfully. Also, Faramir ran around like an absolute badass all game. But we ran out of hope before Frodo made it to Mount Doom.

Still need to play this one. The complexity is making it hard to get learned for me.

I do have a really good feeling about Stonesaga. Getting it set up and learned today.

Fate of the Fellowship definitely has a lot going on. Gonna take a few plays to secure a win.

Glad to see Stone Saga being delivered. My wife backed it and has been excitedly waiting for it. Hope it turned out good!

I hope the new printing of this comes soon!

It’s really fun! Just got our first win 5 minutes ago with Frodo & Sam accompanied by Gimli and a random elf troop at Mount Doom. Arwen and Legolas running distractions elsewhere.

We’ve played a couple of games of Fate if the Fellowship and really enjoyed it too. Came down to a knife edge for us as well!

Kicking off a new People of the Sun campaign in Kingdom Death Monster. Trying out the Scribe app to see how much it helps with all of the bookkeeping.

Giving Gathering Gloom a try. I’ve got some issues with the rulebook, but once you get past all the uncertainties there’s a pretty good game here. Banshee and Vampire lost our first game. Trying again tomorrow!

Awesome :clap:t2: I grabbed a used copy of Gathering Gloom but haven’t gotten it to the table yet.

Prepare for some frustration with the rules. And I feel like there could’ve been a better way for the mechanics to be expressed by the pieces/iconography in the game too. But when you understand it, the reason why you’re taking actions makes sense and seems logical.

And then you can get into the ridiculousness of what’s going on thematically and the game starts to shine.

We played on the 2nd difficulty for our first game and only got half of the needed crises completed. Understanding everything and when to focus on what is important. And that’s a great sign for this sort of game!

Just wanted to say that we got a win today on our 2nd game with Golem and Vampire on the 2nd difficulty. Felt well earned. You really have to play smart and plan well to keep it all controlled. Helps to know all the potential abilities in the common cards too. Like getting a bribe card on a high acumen character was key to our strategy that game. And in the first game we never even had a bribe card, so didn’t bother to learn what it did.

The barrier to understanding in this game is high, but getting past it is worth the effort.

Which expansions turned out to be the best for you? I got half way through your video and I have the Vile Invaders myself.

Arrived today, now to learn this beast of a game

It’s an awesome game in my opinion, I backed the original crowd-funder so probably have 100-150hrs play in now. If you are going to play solo, playing two characters is the common wisdom. True solo is significantly more difficult.

The rules wording is precise, so keep that in mind but if you have experience of other CTG games you are probably already aware of this. And sometimes the rules are in unintuitive parts of the rulebook, too, which can make finding things tricky!

Yeah I am pretty excited for it. I hear it is such a great game especially solo. I plan to run 2 characters like you said and have been watching some lets play videos as of late to get the rules down. I played Too Many Bones a few years ago and didn’t find it as complicated as it was made out to be. I think this one will stay on my table for quite awhile.

Played my first session of solo Mage Knight today

Been a while since I played it so made a few rules mistakes. Really enjoyed it though :slightly_smiling_face:

Pretty funny - Mage Knight was one of the first games I picked up when I started up in the hobby back in 2012 or so. However, it was way too much for me and despite being at the top of everyone’s lists as a great game, I gave up my copy years ago. Well, after seeing it being named as a favorite (still) by so many people, I managed to pick up a gently used copy and I’m looking forward to giving it another go. I’m not the same person I was 14+ years ago, so I’m hoping it hits different this time.

When we played our first game I wrote down all the rules errors we made - it covers a full page of A4 :slightly_smiling_face:

That was 2014, I just checked! And updated the doc with a couple I forgot from this session!

Liz from beyond solitaire does a great job at explaining Mage Knight. It’s decently easy to understand now especially how complicated games are these days now.
