What video game are you playing and do you like it?

Mewgenics looks great. Glad you’re having fun with it. Hoping it comes to consoles soon.

Stolen Realm is currently on sale on Steam, so I just picked that up. It’s a tactical fantasy RPG with a campaign mode and rogue-like random mode. Looks very cool, can be played solo or coop.

Starless Abyss - Saw this was released on Switch this week. Anybody play and or have thoughts? It looks pretty funny but me and Rouge Likes don’t always cotton.

Been playing Kingdom of Night. It’s an isometric arpg adventure in pixel graphics. Inspired a bit by Stranger Things, no doubt. Exploring the mystery in a small 80s town while fighting monsters and figuring out what’s going on. I’m finding it wholly absorbing. Multiple classes to play too. I went with sorcerer, so can’t speak much to the guts (dex) or muscle classes. But running around casting spells has been a blast.

Avowed is finally on PS5 and I am enjoying it quite a bit.

A follow up on Stolen Realm - it has a pretty glaring flaw in that (unless I am missing it) you can’t rotate the map. This means that a tree in the middle of the battle field can be pretty debilitating. I got jumped by a wolf that was ‘in plain sight’ but obscured by a big tree in front of both the wolf and one of my party members.

Avowed is SO GOOD. I’m still shocked by the hate that game received by players online. The combat is great, the exploration is top notch, the world is interesting, and it’s a game that respects your time.

I’m nearing the end of Nioh 3. Played for about 70 hours so far. It’s been great, but I still prefer Nioh 2. One thing I do love about 3 is that it’s actually easier than the others, and that’s a rare thing for a new soulslike, to be easier. Love that. I do pretty much suck at these games though. I’ve died nearly 1,000 times!

I picked it up during the holiday Steam sale and was waiting for the big update - which I guess was just released a few days ago. Definitely looking forward to giving it a spin.

Having fun in Caves of Qud. Very happy it came out for the Switch, as I have a laptop but it’s kind of a pita to play games on.

Controls were a little tricky to parse initially with a controller, but not too bad. Plays great.

Fun game.

I can’t be the only one who pre ordered Fire Red or Leaf Green for today! Blue was probably one of my first RPG experiences, back on the original Gameboy.

Parental obligations mean I won’t be able to play until after bedtime, but I can’t wait to dive in and go 30 years back in time!

Been playing this gem of a game. Just released on consoles yesterday but out on Steam for a year or so I think with overwhelmingly postive reviews. It feels like if you mix final fantasy tactics with D&D and a board game and works very well. Really liking it and perfect game to play streaming on a handheld as well.

Learned of this thanks to Daniel.
Masterpiece. Addictive. Easy to pick up and put down.
Stunning art, music, story, gameplay.
Small development team. (A huge plus.)

I’ve been playing a bit of Resident Evil Requiem. As a longtime fan of the series, with 4 being my favorite, it was pretty much predestined that I was going to pick this one up. Leon shares the stage as the MC for the more aggressive scenes, while there’s another character running around trying to survive in the more classically designed sections.

I’m not far enough to give it a thumbs up or down. And I’ve encountered some crashes that can make playing classic style quite frustrating (saving with typewriter ribbons).

But I will say that the 2nd time you get to control Leon is an absolute blast. It drops you into a fight with a bunch of zombie and a chainsaw that seems to have no safety features. It’s on and that blade is spinning no matter who’s touching it or not. The zombies might drop it, and then it spins on the floor doing damage if you get carelessly close (though you can grab it up too). Other zombies can also pick it up. The weight of the weapon makes them lurch around when they swing it. They hit their friends. They impale each other. Impaled zombies will hug you to death with a chainsaw sticking through them. Generally you expect in a game like this the enemies to have 2-4 types of attacks. But I kept dying here from laughing and being enraptured by the joy of what gory nonsense I was witnessing. Even my wife came over to watch and she generally dislikes watching other people play video games. And still, on the 5th or 6th time I ran this fight, I was witnessing new and surprising things coming from these zombies. Had I just fought and progressed I may never have seen such brutal nonsense.

So, I’m not really saying that anyone should go grab this game because again, I really am not far enough into it to give it a good review. And it has some issues. But it is beautiful looking (especially if your rig can support path-tracing). And this one scene brought me so much happiness I just wanted to share. I am truly impressed with how much extravagance went into that fight scene, including things that some players may never see simply because of the number of variations that can occur.

I recently posted about Blades of Fire on the Patreon, but I am in love with this game! Totally failed to land on my radar until recently. It’s a super cool old school style 3D action adventure game. Reminds me of the Xbox 360 and PS2/3 days in terms of what it offers. It’s made by MercurySteam who most recently made Metroid Dread. It lacks some polish and can be a bit janky at times, but man is it ever fun.

Dread Delusion just came out for consoles. Excited to explore this world. Can’t remember if Daniel mentioned this in upcoming Digital Dive considerations, but it feels like a good candidate.
