What video game are you playing and do you like it?

Wasn’t aware this was even coming to Switch until I saw it in the eShop. Happy surprise. Excited to give it a go as I enjoyed Daniel’s play session / overview.

I just found my way back to Strange Adventures in Infinite Space, an early rogue-latke* pc game that served as partial inspiration for the legendary rogue-latke* FTL.

I like both very much.

Fun trivia tidbit, the origins of SAIS are linked to the famed indie boardgame developer/publisher Cheapass Games.

*I cannot be jiggered to care about any purported distinction between rogue-likes and rogue-lites, so I mash then together, in potato-fashion, to form “rogue-latkes.” This is the way.

I’m playing Quartet on Steam. Quartet is styled after turn based JRPGs of the SNES era. That’s something that I really love, and Quartet has been a joy! Highly recommended.

I’ve been getting back into Age of Wonder 4, it’s a game I’ve had for quite a while but got stuck on a particular mission so lost the enjoyment in it. Recently I had the urge to play again, got through my mental block and started making some real progress.

It’s a really good game, basically a modern version of Master of Magic for people who remember that Microprose game for 1994…

Age of Wonders is awesome, been addicted to Hero’s Hour which is a pixelated version but much more options imo, check that one out!

I started messing around with the Witcher 3 again…and I still don’t love it. I find the controls and running around to be really bad, especially on horse! MY GOD! That horse! It’s especially terrible after playing Ghost of Yotei, which is an absolute joy to run around in, on foot or on horse back. I think the main issue I have with Witcher 3 is how bad the combat feels to me. I hope it’s better in Witcher 4. I really want to love Witcher 3, but I’m not sure I’ll get there.

That has always been my issue. I have tried multiple times to get into the Witcher 3 but the combat and controls are just not AAA quality. I know there is some epic stuff built in that game but I just can’t get past that either.

You have no idea what a relief that is to hear. I’ve started the game two or three times over the years and never gotten very far despite how highly recommended it is. I’ve never been able to put my finger on why. The story is interesting. There is so much to do.

It makes sense that I can’t immerse myself when the game is fighting me.

Absolutely. That’s a perfect way to put. The game’s controls are always fighting me and getting in the way of the fun.

The Witcher 3 is a great story trapped in an awful game. Roaming around solving monster mysteries is great until you have to do any fighting or movement more complex than riding your horse in a straight line. It took me over a year to finish the main story playing off and on. I don’t regret playing it as the story and characters are great, but damn actually playing the game was a slog. The Ghost games are the absolute gold standard for open world games for my money; absolutely sublime. Dragons dogma 2 is also up there. I have really been is enjoying He is coming on my Steamdeck, such a great little game.

Age of Wonders is a great franchise. I spent hundreds of hours in AoW3 multiplayer (coop mostly).

Steam says I managed over a 100 hours in Witcher 3… But I feel like a lot of that time was me just leaving it run while I was doing other things. Something about it just didn’t click. But I’ve never actually finished a Witcher game.

That said, I loved Cyberpunk 2077 and completed it twice. And the 2nd time I couldn’t get enough Berserker melee action. Hopefully that bodes well for Witcher 4…

Yeah, Steam is saying I have like 95 hours of Slots & Daggers in the books but the majority is a AFK closed laptop situation.

I’ve started and restarted my Witcher 3 playthrough maybe 5 times, over multiple consoles. Still haven’t completed it but intend to. Agree on all the points above. And it has the best in-game game in Gwent.

Sort of same deal with Cyberpunk, albeit less stops-and-starts. Great game but stalled a bit past the midpoint. I leaned heavily on the Contagion quickhack . Should start that back up again.

Currently enjoying Arc Raiders quite a bit. Don’t normally play extraction shooters or multiplayer games but this is clicking. Found I need to even mic up so as to clearly tell other raiders I am not hostile (whether or not they actually care is another matter).

With Atari releasing the Intellivision Sprint (remake of the original Mattel Intellivision)
It is a great time to play some Advance Dungeons and Dragons.

The game is not included by default on the system, but putting the Rom on a usb stick and plugging it in allows you to play it.

This is the game that made me love dungeon adventure games… its is so good.

The overland map is generated and allows you to discover a number of different mountain dungeons…
Grey are the easiest and a good place to arm up with more arrows.
In Red mountains you’ll find an axe that helps you move through forests.
Blue mountains have the old handy folding boat to traverse rivers.
Purple are the hardest but you can find a key for the GATE!!!
Planning the best route on the overland map is needed to get to the cloudy moutain.

The final dungeon in the cloudy mountian is the hardest with the strongest and fastest dragon guarding the pieces of the broken crown.

Successfully find both pieces and you win the crown and the game! Fail and your grave is added to the map with a somber tone played.

The dungeons themselves are generated and discovered as you move about. Rats that bite, Spiders that destroy your arrows, Bats that are harmless but generate noise covering the sounds of bigger beasts. And indestructible Blobs that will slowly case you around.

You have to listen for clues for nearby monsters… and look for the tracks and left over bones to know when you might be able to shoot and arrow into the dark passage ahead.

(one trick you can use is to use controller two to fire your arrows. As using one controller you can’t move and shoot, but with two controllers you can! Also arrows can rebound… so watch out for friendly fire!)

(also note that pressing the controller disc at the title screen starts the hardest level… you can press 1,2, or 3 at the title screen for easier game play)

Strange😳 well it a long time ago and back then I played through the story and finished it in about 120h. Had a ton of fun. Great story. Stunning side quests with the quality some other companies would use to make another game… the controls where hard to learn but as soon as you get the hang of it it’s ok.

And yes you are right the ghost controls are the absolute best in the gaming world. (I remember Red Dead Redemption :man_facepalming: compared to ghost it feels like an indie game. Worst controls I ever experienced)

But it’s all about the Witcher world which elevates this game above so much others… it’s definitely not the controls.

So I highly recommend to try it again. And don’t use the fast travel you will miss a lot of the small side events and side quests:smiling_face_with_sunglasses::smiling_face:

This looks great, I have little nostalgia for Atari games outside the arcade (too young , first console was a Sega Master System). Does the game have characters levelling up or equipment and such? I will give it a try some day, at the very least to experience a bit more video game history.
