I was thinking I should post some pics and thoughts on some of my large game book collection and this brand new book arrived today. To me it looks pretty unique. It’s called In The Ashes and is written by Pablo Aguilera and appears to be a cross between a legacy board game (I am supposed to write in the book!) and an rpg / gamebook.
The production on that certainly looks to be a cut above any of the (few) gamebooks I’ve seen. I’m debating in my head whether I like the idea of writing in such a classy object so that when you’re done it’s a classy object, or if I would prefer to ‘destroy’ something less durable.
Wow. Looks amazing for a game book. Did you pick this up in a crowdfunding campaign or is this something that made its way through to retail directly?
And it even appears to be in stock.
Thanks for sharing. Insta-buy for me. There are few others that come close to this. Very few with tactical battle maps. Storm Weavers, maybe.
I like where this is going. Maybe some dry erase. Maybe some cards. But I get that he’s trying to use the book for all elements though.
I’m always on the lookout for interesting new game books. How does this one actually play?
You should definitely post some pics and stories about your other game books too!
I got it retail in the UK, I had never heard of it before but my FLGS had it on the shelf this week.
Not sure how this will play but I don’t think I want to draw in the book so I might use post it notes to play. I am going to post more pictures of my collection as I have some extremely rare stuff.
Any impressions of this from those that have played? Or are they still sitting on shelves
Just saw this thread and would love to hear some impressions too.
Also, as an idea for writing in the book. Amazon (and probably others) sell clear post-it notes. They’re like a thin plastic. You just have to be careful about the ink you use on them, as fancier inks or gel will smear. But cheap pens seem to do just fine.
Hi, just stumbled on this thread, very interesting! I’d love to see more of your game books!!
I’m off work for a couple of days now so will get this to the table tomorrow and report back. (I have fallen down a rather deep Cyberpunk 2077 hole at the moment!)
I’ll assume Cyberpunk is winning the battle at the moment!
Meanwhile I’ve been playing through some initial journeys in Expeditionary Company, which have been interesting. I’ll try to share some more detailed thoughts after I’ve managed to play a couple more months.
At long last, Pirates of the Splintered Isles has found safe harbour. Alas, the more costly accoutrements (aka “Adventure Pack”) appear to have been waylaid en route—perhaps spirited away by scoundrels and privateers of a rather too-authentic persuasion.
Bundle of Holding has a gamebook bundle right now. You Are The Hero
