I absolutely love these, mainly because the art is so good.
That’s awesome to hear. I really love Kevin O’Neill and Steve Dillon’s Hellblazer & Preacher are super big for me. Gonna have to snatch it up at some point.
Ok, so despite starting this thread I have never posted anything from my collection so here is some pics of one of the great series from the heyday of game books, the 1980s.
Grail Quest by JH (Herbie) Brennan was published in 1984 by Armada in response to Fighting Fantasy and Lone Wolf’s huge sales success. It is pitched for slightly younger readers than FF and features Merlin and your talking sword EJ (Excalibur Jnr). The second book is one of the great game books as it is basically like a real rpg with a map that you explore at your own pace.
Looking good! Having those in such good condition is pretty rare.
I picked up In The Ashes – but by the time it arrived I was all out of love for game books.
Does it live up to the hype? Should I get into it or do I put it on the top shelf and re-discover it in a few years?
I could not get into it, seemed gimmicky and not well translated.
