D100 Dungeon, the Whole Arc

The Adventurer’s Diary — D100 Dungeon, the Whole Arc

Hindar the Warrior of Ever Vamp

A parcel arrived this morning bound in brown paper and tied off with what looks, on closer inspection, like a length of old hex-grid graph paper used as twine. No waxed seal. Inside: a single hand-bound ledger, much-erased and patched with fresh sheets where the older pages had worn thin, and seven tabs marking seven separate sessions of the same life. The accompanying note reads, in the spidery hand of Daniel (@dungeondive): the D100 Dungeon shelf — file the whole life, please.

The Keeper, who has long held that the truest kind of adventure record is the kind kept in pencil and corrected with an eraser, files it under D.

The arc covers all of D100 Dungeon — Martin Knight’s solo paper crawler — beginning at the channel’s late-2020 first encounter (Daniel arrived to the game years after it had quietly become a phenomenon among the solo-RPG set) and closing, sixteen months later, with the World Builder expansion bolting an entire overworld onto the dungeon engine and Daniel pronouncing the combined system a probable top-twenty of all time. Between the two: a single playthrough of Hindar the Warrior of Ever Vamp, charted hex by hex, day by day, brawl by brawl, settlement phase by settlement phase. A pure paper life.

The Keeper notes that of all the games filed this season, this is the one whose ledger most closely resembles his own. A character sheet. A calendar with the fatigue pips and the religious days. A combat track building slowly towards a single permanent +1. A diary, in other words, of someone else’s afternoons — kept in the same way the Keeper keeps his.

Notes that this is the game in this archive that most closely resembles the archive itself — kept in pencil, indexed by hand, and corrected with an eraser when the encounter table demands.
