Oh, I have had this for some time, but never got around to play it. I need to find it and have a go!
I’m going to do a vanilla campaign of the first 6 missions. I haven’t played in years and then after that I’m going to do a hexcrawl I think using everything from the first 2 cores.
Just ordered a copy of Heroquest First Light and it should be here by Friday. I’ve never actually played Heroquest (any version) so I’m kind of excited to finally be able to give it a go.
My favorite thing about HQ is all the fan made stuff. You really can make it the game you want it to be.
Nice! Hexcrawl is so good. Have fun!
I’m bias just cause of my love for Dredd but I come back to this game SO MUCH. Just a breezy torture device of gorgeous art.
Myth
Took care of Conner (mini-boss) on the Kickstarter quest Conner’s Toy after playing Rescue my Daughter. Continuing on this questline, I will try to rescue Lucy from my first serious mini-boss and my first Undead enemy (Yardu).
You’re playing with four characters?
Yes, I have been playing with 4 characters: Acolyte, Apprentice, Archer, and Brigand.
Started with the Stone of Life Module, then played the Lucy questline:
- Rescue my Daughter
- Lucy’s Doll or Conner’s Toy (which I did)
- Lucy’s Trouble
- A Father’s Grief (fight with a mini-boss, was Yardu for me)
- Darkness Within
Next, I will start the Avatar of Shadow Module.
@drewborn - Oathsworn is great!
That’s an interesting cover!
Just looking it up online, it reminds me a bit of the “No Tell Motel” single player murder mystery by Ken Lowery - plays with a deck of cards. I just picked up a copy myself, but I’m saving it for vacation next month.
I forgot about this one! I never picked it up but thought it looked rad. Did you dig it?
I’ve only read through the rules, but it seems like a creative story generating system - where the cards and the suits (along with some die rolling) provide prompts to you as a player to try and figure out the mystery. What I thought was creative is that everything you’re getting is rumor and second-hand information, so if a card pull or die roll doesn’t entirely make sense it still fits thematically because it’s people talking about what they heard or what someone told them they saw. I don’t own a game like this but it definitely seems interesting enough that I’d recommend it - especially if you can do a print and play from his Itch.io site - it’s pretty dang cheap.
Such a great game. I’ve found it works well as a tier 2 gateway game. People comfy with the modern starters like Catan, TTR, Pandemic, etc seem more at ease with this game than others I’ve tried. Perhaps the familiar theme, the recognizeable charectors, the bounty token flipping?
Games played in my dungeon in June 2024…

I have been playtesting the production prototype of Dragons Down: Natives & Legends (which you scooped, Daniel!). The game goes on a ship in 5 days!!!
Thank you for your support of this game!
I’ll be digging into the solo Call of Cthulhu adventure Alone Against the Frost in the next few days. Impatiently waiting for Earthborne Rangers to arrive.
