Starting soon, I will be launching a series in which I am revisiting all the games on my two top 10 lists (Dungeon Crawls, and Adventure Games).
There are two main reasons I want to do this.
I’m pretty burned out on learning and playing new games
I just want to play games that I know I’ll love playing
The Games up for consideration will be:
Top 10 Adventure Games
Lands of Galzyr
Runebound 2nd Edition
Dungeon Degenerates
Arkham Horror 2e (probably won’t do this one because of the ongoing series)
Albion’s Legacy
Hexplore It: Valley of the Dead King
Sleeping Gods
A Touch of Evil
Fallen Land 2e
Pauper’s Ladder
Top 10 Dungeon Crawls
Dungeon Crusade
Rogue Dungeon
Machina Arcana
Iron Helm
Warhammer Quest
Mansions of Madness 2e
DungeonQuest
WHQ: Silver Tower
Quest for the Lost Pixel
Secrets of the Lost Tomb
I’d like to use this thread for us all to discuss these 20 games. Feel free to discuss anything related to them.
The first game up will be Quest for the Lost Pixel. I’m not going to do them in any order, and I will most likely skip making a special video for Arkham Horror because we’re still working on that series.
I’m not sure if this is too far outside of the topic, but I recently got my hands on the Heroquest Roleplay Book that is basically a re-written Warhammer Quest Roleplay book for Heroquest. Curious what you think of it? If it is true enough to the Warhammer Quest Roleplay book to be worthwhile.
Absolutely understandable, so point number one.
I’m also a bit sad that these serines are not so well received by the “normal” YouTube viewer. Especially with the flood of videos that only scratch the surface, I think series like this are great for getting in-depth information about a game in order to make a good purchase decision, or simply to enjoy the video with approval.
I recently watched the Shadows of Brimstone series again while painting… fantastic.
As well as this top ten I think is super good.
It’s a great update on your favorites. Has anything changed, has the feel for a game stayed the same, or is there new input…
I’m looking forward to it…
I think it would be neat to make videos about the stories that occur when playing your games. I’ve kind of done this w/ some of my own Dungeon Degenerates play throughs.
You don’t need to go into details about the mechanics of the games. Just tell the story! “The prisoners were freed under the condition to retrieve a head and deliver it. So and so decided to betray the offer, take the head and run. We encountered these monsters as we made our way up the pass to the highlands, only to have X character be defeated. The necromancers corruption was spreading fast down in the swamps, so these two degenerates broke off to the group to calm the savage lands. After completing the next mission the gang decided it was time to make a base. X Y Z happened.”
Something like that! I take pictures of my game states and kind of do little narrations like that for my friends in discord sometimes. I like good mechanics but I love great theme, and the sense of story that comes out of it. A couple videos just describing the stories that are generated while waxing quickly over the mechanics would be fun I think.
I have no idea if anyone else thinks this would be fun, but I do! lol
Tell me the story of your HexCrawl SoB posse! Dungeon Degenerates party, or something like that. I’d love to hear the story from that new space game you like so much, Wandering Galaxy.
You could play your favorite games. You don’t have to worry about filming it, actively narrating while you play. Just take some pictures, put them on the screen and describe the story to us. You get all of the fun parts of gaming, with none of the “youtube production” stress.
Your game designer interviews have always been a highlight. As you revisit these top Dungeon Crawls and Adventure Games, it’d be great to hear from the creators—insights into how these games came to be and any future plans they’re mulling over could add a fresh angle to the series.
Man, I love this game. Both the original and the fantasy flight remake. I played it a year or so ago with my wife and young son….he pulled the chasm/pit on his first turn and jumped, and fell to his death . It was an amazing first game experience; he took it in his stride though.
