Cracking Open Talisman Adventures RPG

Has anyone else actually played this?

We’re wrapping up a short Westend Star Wars adventure that my friend created. He wrote a series of adventures based on episodes of Hawaii 5-0 where you’re playing Mos Eisley cops, and he weaves lesser known characters into it. Was a lot of fun.

We thought we’d try Talisman Adventures next. I know another company has already picked up the IP and is redoing it, but we thought we’d give it a whirl. And man are these books poorly done. Even after the errata.

For instance, the sorcerer class tells you to pick between psychic assault (the wizard’s unique ability) or having a familiar, but then everything else about it assumes you have that familiar. They even wrote errata for the psychic assault entry on the sorcerer’s page, but it still doesn’t feel like the sorcerer should even have it.

The psychic damage modifier is a stat on your sheet, and pretty sure it’s just the same as your craft, but the book tells you it’s different for every class and to look in the chapter on classes, but is then never mentioned there. It seems like you’re only supposed to use strength or craft for damage modifiers, and the pre-generated character sheets confirm this, but the book is all over the place about different stats being used for damage modifiers. Like they switched designs but then only updated half the book.

I’m gonna have to have a whole session with my GM where we just discuss which way we’re going to go with the inconsistencies.

Just in case anyone’s watching this thread: Despite the issues with the rulebook our first session was a ton of fun. And while it obviously doesn’t play exactly like Talisman it does feel like that world.

I didn’t get in on the first edition, but I’m excited to see what Cubicle 7 dos with the second edition and I’ll probably pick it up.

Yeah, it’s likely I’m gonna grab that one when it comes out too.

We’ve reviewed it on the channel!
