(I am not not the designer, but this seems the most fitting category.)
The designer of Civitas Nihilium is planning a standalone sequel/spiritual/streamlined successor, and has scheduled a livestream on their YouTube channel for what I believe will be the initial unveiling. Spread the word! Sign up for notifications! Go find his discord!
Just thought I’d add a bit of colour from the recent newsletter that came through… the dev stream is due some time on the 4 November.
CIVITAS NIHILIUM : URBAN THEATRE.
Greetings Patriots of The Civitas Universe, it has been a while but I come to you with an update on a new game in the works, a spiritual successor to Civitas Nihilium, a solo tabletop game with a play-alongside soundtrack, featuring very similar mechanics of the original game but featuring loads of improvements and the inclusion of a unique WARZONE mechanic I am currently in the depths of designing…
In CIVITAS 2230, society teetered on the edge of war. This new game takes us deep into it, I wanted to push the story forward but go back to the first game Civitas Nihilium, the original solo experience, and rebuilt it from the ground up. Narratively, this time, the year is 2235, and the great city states of Civitas Nihilium and Tal are locked in a full-scale war.
The Main Character and Rookie Detectives return, but everything around them has evolved. The mechanics are familiar, yet the design is sharper and slicker with a more focused version of the same chaotic, story-driven world that made Nihilium so compelling.
Visually, I’ve gone for a clean white aesthetic. It’s not just a style choice, it’s practical. I want to offer a print-and-play option on Kickstarter, and the lighter look makes that far more accessible. The original black-and-teal design worked for large-scale production, but many players now prefer to print at home. This approach keeps costs down, lowers the Kickstarter goal, and opens the door for more people to experience the game and it’s wider universe.
Civitas Nihilium has come a long way. Over the years it has built a small but passionate following, and was even voted number two in The Dungeon Dive’s Best Games of 2024. That kind of recognition reminded me that this strange little world I created has something special at its core. It deserves a chance to reach more people, to find the audience it was meant for.
Which is great to hear as it was previously said the game was done and dusted with no reprints. I’d love to see it come back to life with the new lighter colour scheme… and some better playtesting and balancing
