What's on your table? General Tabletop Game Discussion

Here are a couple more sketches I’m using for Ker Nathalas.

I did some diving a few months ago when I first got the book. On BGG I found some great flow charts and player aids that I printed out to help with the intimidation of learning the game. I’ve never played the 1995 warhammer. But I do agree with the novelty and quality of the game. A very cool and inspiring world. Also I’m loving the sketches you got going on

I bet I used those same flowcharts on BGG when I was playing. Really helped contain things in an easier to digest manner. And I made little copies of all the most used tables and pasted them around the edges of those flowcharts.

I also had a sheet for battle tracking, stuck in a clear page holder so I could use dry erase markers on it.

And I had an app on my phone for all the card decks, so I could just hit a button for those. Which I think just replace some of the tables in the game, if you don’t have them? Monsters/loot/rooms…

These little natural bookmarks have served me well.

Underquest

The Kroling Scoundrel and his pet moon bunny, murdered by the Leeching Troll of Pulma.

A nefarious Warlock fared better; laying low the serpents and balacore of Underquest with foul incantations.

Overall the best of the Helm genre for me… but not by a wide margin.

PS. the character sheets and play mats might be money better spent elsewhere

Man that looks like an absolute masterpiece!

Reading through the Player Reference I found a few critical mistakes I made. (I ended up fleeing from the boss but it turns out that is due to me accidentally doubling his damage!) There is also information here that is not in the main book, so it’s a little bit of an faq/errata mixed in. I definitely recommend this to any new or returning players!

What is the decision space like? From the few YouTube play through available it wasn’t clear how much choice the player has at each step of the game?

The BGG forums seem kinda dead for Dungeons of Doria which shocks me. It’s such a great game. I have been working on some custom content for the game. I made some Wandering Monster rules and for those that have it please let me know your thoughts. I will continue to tweak them and also add more stuff to the game. The user content is really non existent for the game as well which is weird.

Nice. I’ve been thinking about posting some simple session reports on BGG for games that I feel have dead forums. Maybe it will spark some conversation again?

That’s what I am hoping for as well!

Finished up a game of Runebound 2E last night. I actually got knocked out at one point (by one of the dragons) and barely finished with the doom track all the way on nine. That’s pretty rare for me and was basically the result of a LOT of bad rolls for the doom step. So, a bit of a nail-biter towards the end but still lots of fun, as always.

This was my first time using the card holders for the market decks and the green challenge cards since those were the most troublesome decks due to their tall size from all the expansion packs I’ve added in. I got them from a seller on Etsy (GameMate) and I was very happy with them this playthrough so I’ll continue using them from now on. Unfortunately, they’re made for standard poker-sized playing cards so they’re a bit wider than they need to be and, thus, take up more space than I’d like on the table (which is already at a premium with this game!) If they were about 1/4" narrower I think they’d be perfect. Still, I’d highly recommend them if you’re trying to play with a bunch of the card expansion packs.

This was also my first time playing with Ronan of the Wild..well, I might have played him many years ago but I don’t recall (I’ve owned and played this game since it first came out). I recently read The Doom of Fallowhearth and he’s a featured character in that book. It’s a fun story, well-written and I think the author did a great job developing Ronan. So much so that I decided to house-rule him to make him more like the book. The character in the book is basically a giant, muscular, sword-wielding negotiator/diplomat between the tribes and city governments in Terrinoth. The animal on his shoulder (I forget the name of it) gives off a magic-negating aura so that magic users who get near him are mostly neutralized (but not 100%). So, I changed his numbers to favor melee instead of ranged, gave him +3 to diplomacy, +2 to climbing and +3 to magic defense rolls all replacing the other stats on his card. I was pretty happy with the results.

We grabbed this in the last crowdfunding campaign with the expansion. Haven’t gotten it to the table yet, but we are both really excited for it. I’m gonna grab and hold onto these wandering monster rules though.

It’s a fantastic game! Hope you enjoy it!

Some more Ker Nethalas sketches.
My partner had an old water color palette and I managed to find an old haggard brush by the kitchen sink. (We’re staying in a one hundred year old cabin.)
Also I was super inspired by somebody’s mapping on BGG so I have putting more effort into that aspect as well.
Games moving super slow but that’s fine.

Don’t disturb him when he’s just out of the shower, in his bath robe, or he’ll be forced to read from his book!

Nice work. I just bought a watercolour starter set from the art shop, hoping to get some colour into my game maps.

I never used water color before this. I’m having an absolute blast. It’s incredibly relaxing. So happy to finally bring all the experience from painting minis back to my line art.

Not on my table yet, but I’m just posting to say that Space Aces: Wreck Runners and Landing Party just delivered. Took a quick peek at it and everything looks good. Saving this one for when my stepson and his wife come over next.
