Stalagbite and its expansion arrived in Canada yesterday and had to get it setup to go over the components and rules. Looks like a fun adventure where the expansion drops right in with our much complexity. Really happy with the small 'zine they secretly added that has lots of interesting content including a mini pre adventure to build up your dwarves story right before they decide to dig for treasure. Quite the world they are building. Hope to get a multiplayer game of it in soon.

Stalagmite! has hit my table every night this week (that I can get a game in). I’ve been playing a campaign two-handed to get familiar with the rules. I’ve enjoyed it more with each play.

On day 3 of Grimgrove. Faring reasonably well (I think). Digging it - fun game :+1:t2:

Last night I had my first stab at Arkham Horror the card game. Not sure why the rules make it so confusing to learn… Once I got it, it seems fairly straight forward. But didn’t survive long on easy solo. Sounds like there is a variant for solo where you can take an extra move action each turn that I might try. Really got this to sample a LCG to see what it offers experience wise vs other adventure games.

Never tried it solo but we love it at 2 player. It does play a bit different than other games, but on the bright side it’s been around so long that if you’ve got any questions I bet they’ve already been answered. One of my favorite things about getting into a game years after release.

Maybe I’ll try it two handed. Yeah, this version went on sale when another new Core set was announced.

I initially bounced off Arkham LCG but now its one of my favourites.

A few recommendations for solo:

  • play two handed; you need different investigator “types” in your quest to play effectively (or get used to the frustration of never being good at anything)
  • the adventures/quests in the core box are probably the worst – hard to know how great the game is without embarking on a full blown expansion
  • when doing skill checks assume you always need to play a card to improve your chances otherwise you risk being tortured by too many fails when you pull chips from the bag; I got caught in a mental frame where i thought playing cards for skill checks was inefficient where in truth not playing a card is more like desperation

I still have yet to try that but I hear great things

I really should have backed Stalagmite. I love games like that

They sent an update recently saying that the campaign was a big success, and they are working on expansion content for another crowdfunding next year.

Thanks for the advice!
Setup a two handed game of the starter scenario and things are already seeming much better. Only a couple turns in but feeling much better equipped to deal with bad draws.
I’ll keep my eye out for sales of expansion content. (they sure have made it confusing with all the re-releases and different packaging of the same content over the years).

I think the newer starter sets have a slightly modified set of cards. But did you say you got the original one? I actually preferred the cards included in that one… Not that I can remember the difference at this point.

I think the most recent run of all the old campaigns was done in the new 2 box format too. An “investigator box” and a “campaign box”. Prior to that it was a larger box and six extra card expansions for further chapters. And while I’m surprised to see that some of those new boxes are already showing as out-of-print on FF’s website, it should make tracking things down a bit easier.

I’ve tried learning the Arkham Horror LCG 3 times. Each time I get about halfway into the rules and my mind enters a time void or something and tries to slip out of my ear.

Glad to hear you made it to the other side and are enjoying it. I’ll make another concerted effort here soon. :+1:t2:

Excites to get both Vantage and Dragons Down this weekend. My buddy and co-designer Beau was down this weekend and was great fun playing these games. Dragons Down is quickly becoming my favourite. Seems every game there is an epic encounter that makes it so memorable. Vantage still is providing surprises and I think I got lots of life left in it.

Probably not the best place to share but I am happy to have a video posted this weekend from our friend Peters channel about Living History in the 1700s… But this episode covers our board games… https://youtu.be/jWnYlSa6jz8?si=XzhR62Pr9nh1RrfQ Hope you enjoy!

Dragons Down came in last week. Hasn’t left the table yet! I have one game running on the table, one on TTS. I might have a problem.

One of my favorite things about doing the Dungeon Dive is stumbling across unique and interesting indie games that truly offer up something different. Gathering Gloom is exactly that. Made by a husband and wife team, in the game the players are a family of monsters who have to terrorize and stop the nosey intruders from messing up their businesses. It’s a highly thematic worker placement, threat management and deck builder game.

This looks pretty rad.

Gathering Gloom is so good! It creates amazing stories. Right now, the deputy and the sheriff are armed with holy weapons. They must think that they’re hunting a vampire. But I’m a werewolf so holy does nothing to me. I’ve enthralled a professor, car salesman and a hostess as my minions. But evidence to my wickedness is starting to build up.
