Picked up this collection of 3 novellas by Walter Miller Jr. I loved Canticle so much that I really wanted to continue with his work. So far I read the first story Conditionally Human and i almost DNF’d it after the first 1/3. 2/3 in I was thinking wait this is very good. 3/3 I was like, this is another absolute banger.

Proto-cyberpunk that asks PKDish questions like what is human, but using genetically modified animals instead of androids. Written at least 15 yrs before DADOES, this could have inspired that work. The second story I believe will also be proto-cyberpunk and won a Hugo.

I’m currently listening to the Dresden Files series read by James Marsters.

I’ve read the books over the years and with the newest Dresden book out I thought I could do with a refresher before diving in to that one. Gotta say, Marsters does a fine job. I’m not a huge audiobook person but I’m really enjoying this series. And rediscovering lots of characters and plot points that I’d forgotten about.

A Voyage to Arcturus

A sword and Planet without the sword. A tour of different philosophies especially concerned with pleasure and pain; masculine and feminine. This sounds boring, but it’s presented in the craziest most psychedelic way possible.

The Witch Hunter

This is a medieval fantasy about a witch hunter. Gritty low magic setting. Similar to the Witcher, but he fights witches instead of beasts. Mostly people charmed by the witch, which is a neat angle.

Kothar the Barbarian

If you want something like Conan, this is it. Heavy sword and sorcery. No messing around, straight to the good stuff.

Pretty weird book. Really early example of the genre.

Is this done like early Witcher where it’s more a collection of shorts?

Chronicles of an Age of Darkness series is finally back in print!

No, It’s one long story spread over multiple books.

I’ve never read these before. Are they more stand alone or telling one huge story. I saw there were 10 volumes. :scream:

It was meant to be a 20 book series but only ended up being 10. They are all stand alone books however there are characters that appear in and out of the other books and there might be some things you pick up on from the other books.
Delightfully funny and weird classic sword and sorcery

Sounds fun, you have a preferred starting one or should I just pick a cool sounding title?

Start at the first and go from there. Cook is great at taking normal tropes and making them really interesting

Thanks so much for the help and the heads-up.

OH wow! That’s crazy. I’ve read a few, and they’re pretty cool.

I think it was actually meant to be three 20-book series, so 60 books total, or some nonsense like that!
