Daniel (@dungeondive) addresses a question some viewers have been asking: why is The Dungeon Dive covering video games now?
The reasons:
- They scratch the same itch — exploration, adventure, mystery, discovery. The mediums are two sides of the same coin.
- The episodes perform well — and surprisingly, almost no negative feedback. People seem to genuinely enjoy them.
- Easier to produce — A week-long board game video might get 3,000 views; a day’s work on a video game demo got 9,000. The maths speaks for itself.
- Cheaper — No surprise tariff bills, no $200+ Kickstarters. Most covered games are indie titles under $20.
- Lower mental effort — Daniel’s been dealing with long COVID brain fog, and video games are easier to engage with on tough days.
- No storage problem — His 10×10 gaming room is at capacity. Games are now in a storage unit.
But tabletop isn’t going anywhere. The tangible quality of physical games — rolling dice, shuffling cards, flipping through rulebooks — is irreplaceable. Video games supplement the channel; they don’t replace it.
How do you feel about the Digital Dive episodes? Do video games and tabletop games scratch similar itches for you?
