Vacation + Judgemint of the Realm Lords

Currently suffering (NOT) through one of the coolest summers in California I can remember (knocking on wood every day it’s below 95°) and I’ve set up Judgemint of the Realm Lords in the rental house basement
in this little mountain town.

Having a great time, but I wish this game had a bit more narrative (or any at all, beyond the title and character names really)

Also, I can’t be the only one who gets all ready for a chill solo game, sets it up, and then the legal um… substances take effect and I’m on the couch watching Rifftrax again.

I’ll get to it in the morning!

I tend to agree that Judgmint is a mechanical marvel for its size but not terribly rich in narrative. I bet someone could write up a little “pocketmod” book of tables to fill that out. Probably dozens of existing zines/ttrpg books would offer suitable tables.. could be an interesting experiment to see how different books pair with it for solo play.

Yeah I’ve thought about that, wouldn’t be too tricky I’d think. Or some enemy that chases you or something. Most of the Runebound stuff could be adapted not too difficultly

If you’re looking for a more narrative heavy tin game, then Doom Pilgrim has got you covered. Basically the game consists of event cards and nothing else. The black bag expansion adds a nice level of randomness, more open ended events which leads an even better emergent narrative in my experience. The atmospheric art feels like a fever dream and pairs nicely with legal substances I find.

Also: the Crows of Coppershell Bay is a great little emergent narrative adventure game. I’d recommend that too.

The big strength of Judgemint of the Realm Lords is the combat system. Just the stances and types add a lot. I do wish there was more “adventure” to it. So random events or non combat things would add a lot to the experience. I enjoy the game quite a bit, but as it is its just move and fight or move and shop, or in really bad circumstances, dont move at all, just was a whole turn because you have no movement to be able to enter any terrain at all around you. Id really like an expansion pack that as more depth to the experience beyond move and fight.
