Tunnels & Trolls: A New Age

Just got an email about T&T A New Age coming to Kickstarter on March 17th.

I’ve always been interested in T&T but never played.

I probably won’t back it as I’m on a kickstart diet but I’m curious how this might compare to the OG.

Of course, not having played before I don’t have much invested in the old ways.

Anyone have thoughts on this?

Edit: forgot to add, there’s a free Beta Quickstart on DriveThru.

I’ve played a few different scenarios and dug them quite a bit solo. I remember the enemies could stometimes feel ‘spongy’, ie it felt like an inevitability I’d survive just a lot or rolling to get there.

But this was a while back, so it’s a bit spotty. I’ll definitely follow along and see what the campaign looks like.

Old school T&T fans are up in arms about this, and some of them are… not being reasonable. The new game is fine as far as it goes, but it’s kind of generic and uninspired feeling. It bears little resemblance to the old game in terms of rules or worldbuilding. Which is fine, times (and games) change. But it’s also not that original or exciting outside of that context. Reviews from outside the old-school T&T sphere are mixed. If you’ve never played older versions, this will not give you an idea of what they’re like.
