The Secret of Weepstone - For Fans of Dungeon Crawl Classics

Daniel (@dungeondive) takes a deep dive into The Secret of Weepstone demo, a game that absolutely nails the atmosphere and style of classic dungeon crawl adventures. The black-and-white art and isometric perspective immediately evoke that nostalgic OSR energy, with strong inspiration from Dungeon Crawl Classics and old-school Advanced Dungeons and Dragons.

The demo showcases wonderful attention to detail: party composition reminiscent of classic RPGs, a solid D100 system for stat tests, point-and-click adventure elements that harken back to games like Shadowgate, and a fantastic narrator who reads the room descriptions like a proper dungeon master. The magic happens in the little moments—using Tatum’s corpse as a battering ram to open a stuck door, the clever poison trap that needs disarming before using a scepter, and the Mortal Favors system that grants the party supernatural boons when a character dies.

Combat uses a straightforward d20 system meeting or beating armor class, and the demo allows players to recruit six adventurers from a diverse cast of townspeople, each with their own flavor text and personality. The writing is genuinely excellent throughout, the voice acting is surprisingly good, and the exploration rewards careful attention—lighting torches for bonuses, mining for ore, and uncovering the mystery of why the lord has fallen ill.

If you’re a fan of tabletop RPGs, dungeon crawlers, or games that respect the classic dungeon delving experience, The Secret of Weepstone demo is absolutely worth checking out on Steam. Daniel can’t wait for the full release and is genuinely excited about the possibility of doing a full playthrough on the channel.
