Daniel (@dungeondive) returns for Monster Monologues episode three, opening with a confession: the original episode three — the second half of the paint-and-chat — was filmed complete but lost its audio, so it’s scrapped. He uses the moment to diagnose what went wrong with those minis: the bluer, darker primer devoured the soft browns that gave his first four survivors their convincing stone look, leaving a starker, more metallic finish. He’s since found the right shade — Tamiya’s grey surface primer — and is eager to get priming again.
The campaign, he reports, is going wonderfully under the modified Hero mode; the small plus-one bonuses on naming a survivor make a big difference, and he’s grown attached to his character Boon. They’ve felled a Screaming Antelope, a White Lion and the Gorm, with the Butcher up next and the never-before-faced Flower Knight beyond. The bulk of the episode is an assembly tour of his expansions — the Sun Stalker (his favourite, and the hardest build), the Manhunter (his least favourite model), the Dragon King, Lion Knight and Dung Beetle Knight — peppered with Clive Barker comparisons and a wish that Kingdom Death would sculpt his creations. A video-game tangent contrasts the soul of Diablo 3 with the soullessness of Path of Exile.
Which Kingdom Death monster model is your favourite to build or paint — and which one do you quietly dread?
