The Dungeon Dive Vs. The Dice Tower

Daniel (@dungeondive) responds to the Dice Tower’s annual Top 100 lists from Tom, Mike, and Z — sharing surprises, disagreements, and compiling his own Top 10 from their picks.

Background:
Daniel has followed the Dice Tower since ~2008 and credits Tom Vasel as inspiration for starting his own channel. While he’s now a “mono-gamer” focused on dungeon crawls and adventure games, he still learns from watching reviews of games outside his wheelhouse.

Surprises from their lists:

  • No El Grande? Daniel considers it the most perfect board game ever made
  • Tom and Z both still love Massive Darkness 2 — Daniel prefers the first edition
  • Z championing The Others in his top 10

One disagreement (tongue-in-cheek):
Matt Leacock as “king of co-op”? Daniel argues Richard Launius holds that crown — Arkham Horror 1st edition set the template for co-op games. Leacock is the prince at best.

Games Daniel wishes they’d review:

  • Forgotten Depths — might crack their top 100
  • Stellagbite — wouldn’t make their lists, but they’d enjoy it

Daniel’s Top 10 (from their lists, excluding games already on his own Top 10):

  1. Cthulhu: Death May Die (Z & Mike’s lists)
  2. Fury of Dracula (Z’s list)
  3. Cosmic Encounter (Tom’s #1)
  4. Cyclades (Mike & Tom’s lists)
  5. Citadels (Z’s list)
  6. Dice Town (Tom & Z’s lists)
  7. Tales from the Red Dragon Inn (Tom’s list)
  8. Vagrant Song (Z’s list)
  9. Aeon’s End: The New Age (Z’s list)
  10. Jamaica (Z’s list)

How much overlap do you have with the Dice Tower’s top 100? Any surprises or disagreements from their lists?
