Man, seeing a lot of positive buzz in the community about this game. Can’t tell if it just hit at the right time or really is spectacular.
Would I be a fool to not buy it? A damned fool?
The box is enormous. I presently have 0.0% available shelf space for another game, much less a game of this size. And it is not a free game. Quite the opposite.
I wish I could say. It’s in my house but not on my table yet. There is a ton of excitement around it right now though… I was considering unsubscribing from the BGG forum because it spams my subscription list so much.
I played it with a friend last weekend and it feels like it’d be a riot at 2 players. If you don’t have the shelf space for it though… I’d say solve that problem first!
We got these metal cabinets off amazon that work pretty well.
And then my one kid was in a room with thick custom shelving that had glass cabinet doors attached to one of the walls. So my wife started talking about building another room in the house with these weird giant PVC lego blocks that are normally considered temporary walls. My daughter was like “I want to live in a lego room!” And so now she does… And we have those cabinets.
It is an amazing game. It is easy to solo with anywhere between 1 to 4 characters, supports drop-in/drop-out of characters and difficulty adjustment: Story/Normal/Harder.
I am playing solo with three characters: Dwarf Warrior, Fae Mage, and Slynn Cleric.
It is a sandbox Adventure game. One long (40+ hours) playthrough where you can save anytime in the middle.
It is not a small box and is not cheap: Arydia – FarOffGames
Cool you’re soloing with 3 characters. Not too much of a “lift” to do 3 at once? Assuming not as you’re playing that way. I think Daniel said it works as a true solo, though can see the appeal of multiple characters.
Yea, you don’t have a hand of cards like Gloomhaven or Oathsworn, so it is easy to run multiple characters. Table space can be an issue, which is why I stopped at 3.
You can play true solo, but will miss any potential character interactions and will need to run around the map a bit trying to kite enemies.
For example, Path of Valor has a skill that can taunt enemies toward them to keep them from going after a squishy mage. The mage can move enemies on the board to line them up for potential attacks, etc.
The green mat is 3’ x 3’, so 4 characters would be 3 feet wide with the boards double-stacked. My table is 4 ’ x 4’.
It’s very, very good. I’ll have some detailed thoughts posted to the channel this coming Sunday. The title of the video is “Overwhelmingly Thoughtful.” I’ve played about 10-12 hours so far, and I think thinking of the word “thoughtful,” while playing.
If you just run through the campaign and you’re NOT a completionist there’s probably at least two run throughs with different classes.
On the other hand, if you have to explore every nook and cranny then you’ll likely not find enough variation in the class differences to justify a second playthrough.
That said, if you make it through the entire campaign of 40+ hours you will have got your money’s worth in any event!
