Papercrafts: Folding tiles for quick set up

Idea for designers:

A 4×3 tile (test it by cutting 4×6 index cards in half)

All of the edges of the squares are folding edges, and all edges are cut to fold in alternating directions.

My goal is to be able to create diverse room sizes, but do as little fishing thtough the box as possible. Build compex dungeons with as few steps as possible. Maintain immersion.

I think (and I might be wrong) that, with 4 different color tiles, you can depict rooms without needing walls (if adjacent colors are different, assume a wall, otherwise theyre connected.)

So in theory, (again, havnt tested yet) you could recreate the heroquest board with 4 different colored sets of these tiles by folding and placing these tiles together.

Also, since all of the tiles are “identical” you could randomize dressing/features/enemies if you so desired and draw randomly.

My main concern is, if the tiles are made of thick enough cardboard to lay flat, folding them will create the sense of height which is not intended.

My hope is that this idea is uesful to designers and can be elaborated upon (if i dont use it myself).
