Designer Michael has sent Daniel (@dungeondive) a preview package of upcoming League of Dungeoneers material, and it directly addresses two of the most consistent criticisms of the first printing: there was almost no art on the cards, and there were almost no non-combat events in the dungeons. Both are about to change.
The new dungeon event deck is the centrepiece of the preview. Tarot-sized cards with full art — intoxicating mist that hurts your throat, parchment pinned to the wall, a still-lit torch, a pile of scattered cloaks, a wailing sound from somewhere unseen. A subset of the final deck, but enough to show that random dungeon flavour is being treated seriously rather than as a stretch goal afterthought.
Alongside it, a new legendary items module: a deck of unique magical objects with art on every card, plus a companion book of short story-shaped lore entries. Daniel reads aloud the entry for the Socks of Perpetual Comfort — woven by the battle wizard Maximilian Skulls, who tired of his commander’s sock hygiene lectures and was beheaded shortly after by a goblin scimitar. The card grants +1 max Energy. Each item gets the same treatment.
A second-printing rulebook is also confirmed. Daniel may be brought on as an editor.
How much lore should a single magical-item card carry — a sentence, a paragraph, or a separate book?
