Anyone still playing this or an avid fan? I’m looking at maybe getting it for me and my son to play. It’s getting on for ten years old now but it seems to still hit home for a lot of people.
I absolutely loved playing it. The base game was a huge part of our weekly gaming night for months. I know there is a Steam app for your PC that allows you to play against the Imperials. That might be worth checking into if you don’t want an competitive experience against your son. But then again, its Star Wars, so…kids fight their dad all the time. I also saw the base game on FB marketplace for around 50, which is a steal.
Good luck on your decision, and I hope you have fun.
Is this not a coop game then?
It’s a one V Many… usually most players play as the Rebel team and one player as all of the Imperial Forces.
I’ve been keen to give it a go as I’m a sucker for old school space western Star Wars as opposed to Disney’s recent interpretations. Will probably end up as an impulse buy if i see it floating around in a local game store.
There is a solo/coop option direct from fantasy flight… but also a popular community app that plays the role of the Empire ![]()
The 1vMany aspect prevented me from picking this one up for ages too, and when I found out it had an app to convert to coop and I picked it up, I realized I was just burnt out on Star Wars ![]()
It’s got a pretty large dedicated fan base as far as I know though. Lots of love for the game
I have everything for the game and almost fully painted. Its a great game and a great system. I like it more than Descent 2nd, I feel its a more Descent 2.5
sorry for the “necromancy” ![]()
There is an fan made app which is super.
With that app you can play EVERY campaign CoOp and there are plenty fan made missions/ campaigns as well.
They are still working and tweaking that one as well… so no dead end here ![]()
I’ve pretty much bought it all now. I love both apps. Great game. My friend is a huge SW fan so we played three scenarios for 7 hours the other week. Great fun!!
Does the system with the app end up playing out like LotR:JiME? I never played Descent or IA because of it initially be a one v many game. And when I looked at it for cooperative play it seemed like LotR:JiME would be the better product as it was designed for this style from the start.
Do you know how IA compares in the cooperative experience? Is it very similar?
They play similar to Hero Quest with the app which was designed as one vs many originally as well
Oh, I didn’t realize there was a one v many system to the app too. Interesting. I guess maybe I should just watch some videos! ![]()
The app doesn’t have that I don’t believe just meant the game was originally like that.
Oh, I see. Sorry, I misread your meaning. You meant Hero Quest was originally 1 vs many, not the app design. I was wondering what the app would do with players on all sides.
Thanks for clarifying!
Imperial Commander looks pretty impressive for an unofficial app. If I got this straight, the official app has its own coop campaigns. And then Imperial Commander allows you to run all the original 1vsMany campaigns as cooperative plus any fanmade ones contributed to the app?
How’s the quality? Do you prefer one of the apps to the other?
The quality is quite good.
Very minor errors if any. they are constantly updating the app and eliminating the errors. due to the fact that they are working on this app for quiet a long time you got an nearly flawless experience.
The main advantage is that you can play EVERY campaign and mission solo/ coop which was not possible in the original.
And you can get rid of this annoying time pressure element/ or keep it. your choice.
That sounds great! Especially about time pressure being optional. I’m eyeing up a used bundle as we speak.
Thanks for answering my questions!
Yeah, I’ve really enjoyed my time with Imperial Commander. It absolutely makes owning the game very solo friendly and the designers have done an excellent job of implementing the missions, even the complex ones. It’s probably the most professional looking unofficial app of any kind I’ve seen.
yea do it… it’s an fantastic game… if you love Star Wars ![]()
Well, I did do it! 40lbs of Imperial Assault just showed up. It has two spiral bound consolidated rulebooks. A binder with all the campaign documentation. Every released expansion. Sleeved cards. Acrylic tokens & doors. Extra 3D printed miniatures. A bunch of plastic organization boxes.
It’s definitely going to be jumping the line to get to the table. Right after we finish this Arkham Horror Campaign and do a run of League of Dungeoneers…
