Daniel (@dungeondive) is properly excited about Grimscar—a solo hexcrawl RPG that’s earned his emphatic recommendation.
You’re a citizen of Grimscar, a town being slowly strangled by the Dark Wield, an ever-changing deathly forest. But what elevates this beyond survival horror is the psyche stat system. Your stats sit on a spectrum: Rage, Hatred, and Butcher versus Patience, Pity, and Hope. Use your darker impulses in combat and they grow stronger; draw on your humanity and it depletes. The philosophical kicker—that anger is infinite while goodness exhausts itself—hits harder than expected.
The forest remembers too. Monsters you flee from establish lairs you can revisit. Over 100 pages of D100 tables keep things fresh.
Has Grimscar eaten your evenings? That psyche system deserves a proper discussion.
