The recent Patreon video regarding Fantasy Map Maker reminded me that I had this PnP game sitting on my computer. And I thought that maybe I could give it a whirl using Wonderdraft instead of hand-drawing the maps. Not that I’m against hand-drawing… I’m just not particularly good at it. And Wonderdraft has the added bonus of being able to switch themes pretty easily for different maps depending on how many assets you have for it.
So I made a template that looks like this:
It’s essentially a layer of ocean with a layer of land over top of it. To make coastlines you just erase the land a bit to reveal the water underneath.
And after a game that ended early (due to double 5s when I had wedge #5 filled out), I ended up with this losing map:
This should in no way be a good representation of what can be done with Wonderdraft if you aren’t familiar with it. People make some really professional looking things with it. But I just used the quick tools to slap things together and didn’t spend much time making it look pretty.
But playing a game while sitting at my computer went pretty well. And the option to switch between a multitude of different themes seemed cool to me. I mean, I could have had mushroom houses and candy cane forests. Or fleshy mounds with hairs for trees and eyeball mountains.
Anyway, I’ll post a pic of my terrible game sheet too when I switch to my phone, for anyone interested.
