Daniel (@dungeondive) returns to the grimy, punk-rock world of Dungeon Degenerates to unbox Goblin Mode, the third expansion from the most recent crowdfund. This one extends the campaign beyond defeating the Hand of Doom, letting players take control of goblin lords—Caswart, Ski Gristle, Pog Pimple, and Filchmold—as they fill the power vacuum in Brutalberg (now renamed “New Gobble” by its new occupants). The expansion includes a full set of missions, a war deck replacing the danger deck, new skills, epic loot, and a delightful cast of goblin monsters including the pickle goblin and the goblin chicken.
Daniel explains why he originally skipped this expansion—he prefers shorter, self-contained sessions using the fan-made quest and roleplay generator by Mel Lee rather than the branching campaign structure. This leads into a broader discussion about his hopes for the upcoming Lowlife RPG: if it lets players use all existing board game components within an RPG framework, he’s interested. If it’s a standalone system, less so.
The video also covers Diverst issues #8 and #9, Sean’s growing body of weird fiction, and Daniel’s own contribution—an essay called “Why Talisman Still Matters.” The whole lot (Goblin Mode plus two exclusive characters) is headed for a Patreon giveaway.
