Daniel, you must try Broadsword (Heroquest reskin)

throwing up a post to encourage Daniel to review broadsword. It is cheap on DPRPD, it’s better if you get the card decks, and it turns HQ into a fully fledged role-play game. I’ve also has AI cards to manage to the monsters if you want to play without an overseer.

I’ve also has AI cards to manage the monsters if you want to play without an overseer. Also, the monsters are far more interesting than the ones in HQ base game, and there is an entire separate bestiary as well as the one in the core book.

It has many more classes, character creation, and decks for several different types of spellcaster which is amazing.

it also has at least two published campaigns as well as some shorter adventures and these campaigns take you out of the dungeon which is really kind of nice. I have not played those.

I’ve got it! Along with the solo rules, which were a bit of a disappointment for me. However, I think the system looks nice, and I plan on doing a big HQ video soonish and mentioning it!

Yeah it’s not a robust solo system. The AI cards are “nice” but a bit superfluous; it’d be easier to just write one’s own AI rules on a sheet of paper. That’s basically why I switched to Maladum. It feels like an alive world, replete with NPCs that you can recruit, or who interact with you in various ways, and a set of interesting “main" enemies, all with special abilities.

Still, if I DO feel like playing Zargon, Broadsword is the system I’d use.

OR I’d add in AxianQuest Infinite Dungeons and Event Cards or other general event generator card decks.
