Daniel (@dungeondive) kicks off a session-report series, this time with all three maps deployed — base, Something Wicked, and the newly reprinted Coast expansion picked up from Amazon. He skips the character expansions (“there are already enough heroes in the base and big-box sets”) but adds four card supplements straight from Flying Frog’s webstore: Hero Upgrades, Madness, Allies, the coast-specific Haunted Shores, and Dark Revelations for Something Wicked.
The chosen villain is the Ghost Ship — crewed by spectral pirates and led by a Ghost Captain who roams the land hunting his own cursed gold; heroes must collect enough gold themselves to summon and weaken the ship for a final showdown in the icy waters. The Kraken lurks in the coastal spaces, and the new tidewater village, lighthouse, shipwreck, and smuggler’s cove (with its secret passage back to the Abandoned Keep) all carry their own encounter decks.
The hero trio: Argot Blackwell the Master Hunter (gruff outsider, +2 fight dice vs. beast/vampire/ancient), Maria de la Rosa the Smuggler (cheaper town items, free secret-passage use), and Henrik Cartwright the Drifter (draws two events, keeps one). The Hero Upgrades supplement adds a 10-investigation level-up cost, Madness shuffles deeply nasty mystery cards into the base decks, and Dark Revelations slips Crimson Hand corruption into the monastery.
How do you feel about Flying Frog’s Crimson Hand connective tissue across Touch of Evil, Fortune and Glory, and Shadows of Brimstone? Shared universe or shared shorthand?
