Daniel (@dungeondive) runs from Firelink Shrine down into the Depths for the Gaping Dragon, taking the deliberately short route: skip most of the sewer proper, open the shortcut to the bonfire, and detour only for the large ember — which prompts a homeward bone back to Andre to push the claymore to +7 and squeeze a couple of levels into the bow. He swaps the Balder Shield for the spider shield, conceding it is the weaker piece but wanting the toxic resistance for Blighttown, and admitting he mostly just likes how it looks.
Much of the episode is commentary rather than combat. He reads the Balder Shield description and notes the kingdom itself never appears in the game, questions the received wisdom that the butchers are female, and floats the theory that the meat in that kitchen is being prepared for the dragon below. He also answers a comment accusing him of knowing too much for a self-described noob: hundreds of hours watching LobosJr and others supplies knowledge but demonstrably not skill, a point his first death to gravity makes on his behalf.
The one piece of real preparation is killing the channeler who would otherwise buff the boss and take pot shots from the balcony. Gold pine resin goes on, Solaire is deliberately left unsummoned to keep the health pool down, and the tail comes off before the head.
Daniel skips most of the Depths because he finds little there worth engaging with. Is a level you can legitimately shortcut a design failure, or a mercy?
