Gemmell is really good!

Good choice with David Gemmel. I absolutely love the Jon Shannow novels, great characters and nobody does action like Gemmel. Very interesting take on the apocalyptic setting as well. Would also recommend Winter warriors (about a group of almost retired warriors taking on one last adventure). The lion of Macedon and sequel Dark prince are also excellent heroic fantasy set in Ancient Greece.

Just finished this. Thought it was good overall and a neat concept, though agree the ending could have been expanded upon more.

Colder weather respite here in Minnesota, which is welcome. Spending the Saturday morning enjoying coffee and paging through The Fellspyre Chronicles.

Anyone a fan of Alan Dean Foster?

Just started reading the Spellsinger series

I read the first few Spellsinger books, and really enjoyed them. They’re light, breezy fun, with some decent humor.

Enjoying the “chest of drawers” turtle on the cover.

My scatterbrain spent a few moments drifting from work and instead wondering “how do the drawers work with his stomach and gi tract?” and “if he eats a bunch of broccoli and gets gassy do the bottom drawers slowly push open?”

Nobody depicts sorcery in fiction like CAS. I’m slowly working my way through his complete works. However, I have a uniquely middle-aged problem. I can only read so much before I fall asleep!

Really dug this and quickly tore through it. I have the 2nd and have yet to start it, I think there’s a third as well, yeah?

Been reading Dungeon Crawler Carl. Almost done with book 4. A TON of fun, especially the audio book.

I really like some of CAS’s stuff, but it’s really hit and miss for me. He has great style, and good humor.

I’m currently reading through this massive book. A detailed examination of every single Dylan studio track. It’s simply incredible.

Any fans of the publisher Baen?
I enjoy reading the Honor Harrington series. It’s military sci-fi. The technology in the universe is set up in such a way that space battles have similarities to old naval battles. Entertaining stuff.

The reason I bring up Baen is because their books are all downloadable for free. It’s a great resource for sci-fi/fantasy books: https://baencd.thefifthimperium.com/

I’m currently reading the tenth book in the main Honor Harrington series:

I’m not sure what to say about their covers haha. Just thinking about Daniel saying he does judge books by their covers on the channel.

Second book in a great private eye series about a pair of detectives in rural Australia. It’s pretty harrowing stuff, as the main character is a former cop who was falsely accused of the rape and attempted murder of a young girl, and he is deeply traumatized by the entire world turning on him. His partner is equally broken, a young woman who went to jail for murdering a classmate in high school and is now viewed as the town pariah. It’s bleak stuff, but there’s rays of hope that shine through. I highly recommend it.

There’s also a TV series based on it, called Troppo which you can check out on Amazon. It’s pretty decent. I like the leads, but they change quite a bit so it is more “inspired by” than “adapted.”

Seeing so much overlap with what others are reading here!

Currently bouncing between the Farseer Trilogy and Legacy of the Drow, while also reading through the Swamp Thing collections (currently on volume 4 of that). Once the latest Alex Pheby book hits paperback I’ll finish up that trilogy as well hopefully!
