Far Away - 2p rpg/boardgame

Here is the game I was mentioning on the call:

Quite fun and variable, but some random setups are much harder than others.

Missed the call, but the gents over at Hopeless Games have an interesting long playthrough of this:

Funny you should mention Far Away!

I recently backed the base game and upcoming expansion:

I always loved the 70’s bureaucrat aesthetic and “hitch hiker’s guide” style humour. But I think I was a little put off by the 2-player moniker.

As it turns out you can play solo, 2-handed co-op as long as you’re happy to try and compartmentalise your actions for each character. Each player is supposed to work alone without sharing information, until the in-game characters meet up again to communicate.

This was an interesting play through. You’re spot on @Genghis-Pawn about the last 20 mins of game design discussion – it’s well worth the listen if you have any interest in the game, but not 4 hours to burn

Makes me really keen to get my hands on it.

“It’s super fresh…”

Interesting duo… they have a few games about hopeless adventures:

My wife and I own this and have played the first two scenarios but have not got back to it. I really like and am especially interested in examining the simple but very effective AI used for what the alien critters do and how they form relationships to one another and react to the intruding space workers.

You can try a beta version here: Creature AI Module | Far Away

If you want to know more about each action, see Creature Almanac | Far Away

Managing seven or eight species with the new AI (or even the old rpg) is challenging, but I am not sure how to streamline it and Alex has already thought of everything I could even start to consider, so maybe it is just a case where manipulating the world takes more time/effort than choosing your actions.
