City of Chaos - Let's Play - Part 4

Daniel (@dungeondive) presses on with City of Chaos (a rare morning coffee episode). On the Wild Hunt, Dizzy reclaims his dropped gear, frees an escapologist for a tangle net, and fights a weeping private guard to the death. Daniel flags his own house-rule kindness — he won’t discard clue cards on death, since clues are the whole point of the game.

The standout is Bing in the library: reading the gorgeously written “Ballad of Burynathar” nets him two clue cards at once (#9 and #16), feeding the Wizard War and Dark Overlord plots, plus hints about a vampire’s invitation, dragon’s-spittle spray, and a farmer’s cart. At the blacksmith he earns clue #2 — a pewter rose bound for incineration at a factory. He buys x-ray specs earlier and now triangulates toward the Marble Minaret. Dizzy, meanwhile, gets cursed afresh and robbed of his groats.

By the episode’s end Bing reaches the Marble Minaret, uses the x-ray specs to find its hidden entrance, climbs it — and is blasted by the sorcerer Muirhead (who mistakes him for a rival), hurled out a window for nine damage, down to one body point. The Wizard War plot snaps into focus.

That library ballad handed over two clues at once — do you love it when a game rewards close reading like that, or prefer clues spelled out plainly?
